The Z80 Microprocessor Family: The Z80 microprocessor family was originally designed as an enhanced version of Intel's 8080 microprocssor. The Z80 is an 8 bit, nMOS, 16 bit address bus chip with 156 basic instructions available in the instruction set. The instruction set includes the 8080 instructions as a subset, so 8080 code can be directly run on the Z80, however, the Z80 is not pin-compatible with the 8080. It has different, simpler, power requirements than the 8080.
