The 680x Microprocessor Family: The 6800 was introduced by Motorola about the same time Intel introduced the 8080, and like the Intel 8080, the Motorola 6800 became an industry standard. The 6800 is an 8 bit nMOS microprocessor, with a 16 bit data bus and 72 basic instructions. The 6800 had a reputation for being easy to learn and use in designs. It had simpler power requirements and needed fewer support chips than the 8080 to make a working system. Enhanced versions of the 6800 include 680x chips.
