1802 Microprocessor Family: The 1802 microprocessor was introduced by RCA. The 1802 was the first 8 bit microprocessor to use CMOS technology. The Address bus is 16 bits and the instruction set has 91 instructions. The CMOS manufacturing technology provided higher speeds than the NMOS technology available at the time. The 1802 is well known as the microprocessor used in the COSMAC computer system. The 1802's high noise immunity and high tolerance for voltage variations made it a popular processor for space applications. The CPU clock is static, which means the processor can be run a varying speeds or even stopped with no ill effect. Alternate manufacturers include Solid State Scientific and Harris.
